My artifact was a .44 Caliber Starr Double-Action Percussion Revolver that was used in the Civil War. The company that made this gun, STARR, didn't make the only double-action revolver. An 1858 patent Remington revolver called the New Belt Double-Action were made, too. There were 5,000 of those revolvers built. The Starr has a 6 inch barrel and it is made on a steel frame, this gun also had a walnut stock(handle). The cylinder of this gun is surrounded by the frame, like the Remington and Rogers & Spencer. This feature makes it stronger then the colt design. The Starr has the under-barrel ramrod. This gun is historically accurate. Officers, on both the Union and Confederate sides only used this weapon. Usually the Starr was used as a back-up except on generals. James Woodcock was a private and he used this gun as a back-up incase he lost his gun. So this weapon was used by him to back-up his other gun. I believe that this gun took a while to load for a beginner. As you get use to it you get quicker. This gun was much more accurate then the average musket. I think that if I were in the Civil war I would want this gun for back-up.
