Why did the Battle start?

I think the battle started because Bragg wanted to capture the vital communications hub. It was in the town of Chattanooga and they had to go through Chickamauga to get to the hub. That’s why the battle started.

What happened in the Battle of Chickamauga?

The First day of the battle, Brannan’s division (a division from the North) was posted 2 miles away from Chickamauga. When they did that they saw Forrest’s cavalry (cavalry from the South) and they called the Confederate Infantry. That started the war.

The second night they both went into different positions. At 9 o’clock Thomas (from the North) told Negley’s division to get into reserve but they were in a line so it did not work. Then Thomas had to go get them because they made and error. They fought for many hours.

The events that lead up to the battle was, first there was a battle at Chattanooga and then there was a battle by Dug Gap and McLemore's Cove. Then on September 12 the Confederates retreated from La Fayette. And came to Chickamauga.

The South won that battle so they had one more battle won over the North. I think if the North would have won the battle they could have ended the war sooner. But I also think that the South could have won if they won more battles like this one. Why, because if they won more battles they could have beaten the North because they would have been stronger and they would have had more weapons.
