The Wars and Historical Pieces

Who would whisper sounds of comfort?

Who would soothe your pain?

Oh, the cruel fancies

Ever in my brain!

But your country calls you, darling.

Angels cheer your way

While our nation’s sons are fighting

We can only pray.

Nobly strike for God and liberty

Let all nations see

How we love the starry banner,

The emblem of the free!

I found this poem in the American Folk Poetry book. This poem talking about the war and pieces of history. As the poem starts out the narrator is asking either the wives or children who would answer their cries, and pain while their men are away at war. The narrator is putting the poem in his/her opinion of imagining all the cruel things that happened to many innocent people. Then towards the third line when it quotes "countries calling you, darling." I think the narrator’s saying that because their son’s or husband’s are the one’s fighting and they maybe calling their mom’s or wives just in case they get hurt." Angels cheer your way" May be stating that angels are watching over the men and hoping that many survive so mainly their guiding the men and All the women can do is pray for them. I think this poem is a good poem because it’s telling us to stand for God and liberty and that’s to show other nations that we love the banner and the freedom and maybe telling other nations we won’t give up easily until we agree on peace. An important thing we need to recognize is the rhyme and that would be" Ever in my brain; /Angels cheer your way." Imagery is an important part of this poem we can tell how the mood might reflect off of it to and that would be "Whisper sounds of comfort /soothe your pain. The symbol of this poem is important and still is today and that would be "The starry banner; the emblem of the free" which represents the flag. Onomatopoeia for this would be whisper because it can describe another thing like the tone "whisper" is telling us that it’s a quiet poem and spoken softly.

The Civil War

The importance of this is still immense,

The conflicts settled so it's done and gone,

But, many wonder what went wrong?

What happen was just this,

Neither north nor South got their wish,

So hostile and jittered they all created a war.

As the booming, banging, and blasting of the bombs went on,

Many realize that this is wrong,

They should all be at home getting along.

As morning arouse. Many were dead.

Only one left standing proud and tall,

Happy to announce freedom to all.

Social studies books and the encyclopedia aided me in finding information for this poem.

I wrote this poem based on the Civil War. In my poem people are wondering what all had started the war? As my poem goes on it describes what may have went wrong with the war. It tells a short summary of whom it was between and what it was over. My poem gives a good description of what the war may have sounded like when it took place. It also tells us what might have been going threw some of the soldiers heads as this war was going on. This is good because then we know that they didn't just worry about killing they actually did realize that this is wrong. After the war was done and gone it gives us a short summary of what had happened to those brave men and it told us that "The only one left standing was the U.S flag. The only one left standing; / pronounces freedom to all." We can recognize that this is telling us the symbol is the U.S flag. Understanding this poem we must recognize the alliteration of what went wrong? This information we know that the poem will focus on describing the acts of the war to us. This information helps us to understand the poem a whole lot better. All this information we know that the war was caused from a disagreement between both North and South.
