Bell School - Newcomb Township
". . .The teacher taught all eight grades with a total school enrollment of approximately 20 pupils. The classes were small - about two to six in a class. The seats and desks were in rows facing the front of the room where the teacher's desk was located. The lower grade pupils had small seats and desks while the upper grade pupils had larger seats and desks. In front of the teacher's desk was a long recitation bench or seat. The teacher called each class to come forward and sit on this bench to recite their lesson. The classes lasted about ten minutes. The morning subjects were usually reading arithmetic and history. The afternoon subjects were writing or drawing, physiology, grammer, geography and spelling." - Mervin Hinton - Class of 1927
