Welcome: Thank you for visiting my webpage.  I have created this page to inform students, parents, and anyone else who is interested about me, the classes I teach, my policies and procedures, and to encourage people to discuss openly all of the above in order to enhance student interest and success in this curriculum!

About me: In addition to being a Social Science teacher, I am a Captain andCommander of Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 130th Infantry located in Litchfield Illinois.  My many years of military experience has significantly affected my approaches to classroom management and teaching techniques.  Some of my most memorable experiences have been to perform parachute jumps from C-130s and 100' repels from UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters.  My wife and I are anxiously awaiting the birth of our first child this summer!

My Classes:  Currently, I teach:

  • 7th grade World Geography
  • 8th grade United States History
  • high school elective World History

Policies and Procedures: Please see the link at the left to view what my policies and procedures are.  At the beginning of the school year, each of my students take a procedure quiz (yes for a grade!) to ensure everyone knows and understands them.

Approaches to Learning: I use "engaged learning" throughout my classes.  Engaged Learning emphasizes a student centered approach as opposed to lessons that are completely teacher directed and led.  I expect my students to take responsibility of their learning, seek assistance from me,  discover answers to REAL problems through quality research using a variety of sources, and to present their findings to the class in a coherent and effective manor.   Throughout my curriculum, students use technology to find problem-solve, communicate, and assist each other with their learning.  Many of you educators out there know that I did not create the idea of Engaged Learning..  I encourage everyone to check out the North Central Regional Educational Laboratories (NCREL) webpage for more information on Engaged Learning.

Under Construction:  This is only a rough draft of my classroom page.  More information will follow as soon as I get time!
